Bereaved Parents Spared Child's Funeral Costs
Child’s Funeral Costs
Families grieving the tragic loss of a child will no longer have to meet the costs of their funeral. This comes as a result of a new government scheme, set up to provide financial help.
Support for child funeral costs can be accessed by the Children’s Funeral Fund for England. The scheme can help to pay for some of the costs of a funeral for a child under 18 or a baby stillborn after the 24th week of pregnancy.
Provided the burial or cremation takes place in England, anybody can access the fund as it is not means-tested. That is to say, what you earn or how much you have in savings will not affect the amount of support you get.
What Does the Child Funeral Fund Cover?
- Burial fees.
- Cremation fees, including the cost of a doctor’s certificate.
- Coffin, shroud or casket (up to a cost of £300).
If you have other funeral expenses, you might be able to apply for Funeral Expenses Payment to cover them.
How Can I Claim?
If you are using a funeral director, they will be able to help you in submitting your claims. The fees for burial or cremation can be claimed directly by the burial or cremation provider.
